FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER

February will bring winters best effort with frigid north winds and long cold nights boasting the lowest temperatures of the season. What a great time to get warmed up and what a better occasion than Valentine’s Day! Forget all the commercialization; it can be over bearing at times. Think of it as a nifty reminder to reflect on those who are closest to our hearts.  It is not the amount or the size of a gift but just the effort to express the importance of all relationships.

COURSE UPDATE

Attention all River Bend members and golfers!  Your brand new 5,800 square foot putting green is going to be sodded with champions Bermuda turf on Wednesday, February 1^st. With a little help from Mother Nature and some TLC, we should be putting on the new surface near the end of April.  Also, both courses have undergone preliminary spraying for all winter grasses, weeds (including clover) plus a pre-emergent for spring green up. This process should be completed by the second week of February. If you are lucky enough to be golfing regularly you have noticed a difference. How about that much needed rain! We can all do our part in helping both courses with your diligent efforts in filling divots with sand and the 90 degree cart rule. It does make a difference!

SUPER BOWL SHOOT OUT

Last chance to sign up! Attention all members, guests and avid golfers - The Super Bowl Shootout on Sunday, February 5^th at 11:00 a.m. is filling up fast! Get your team together and sign up. The field is open to members, guests and anyone who loves competition on the links. The format is a 3 person scramble with everyone having to hit 6 drives. The total minimum handicap for a team is 28, with18 being the maximum for any one golfer. The tournament starts at 11:00 a.m. sharp with a “SUPER” supper that will lead us into a festive super bowl party. If you cannot play golf but want to come watch the super bowl and enjoy the “SUPER” supper just call in and RSVP for a ticket to the action and maybe take a chance on the 100 square super bowl pot! All money will be given back equally to the winners of each quarter. Call PCC for more information.

TENNIS NEWS

Yes, you can play tennis in the winter and the courts at both courses are in great shape. Beginner tennis lessons for kids are now underway. If you have an interest in a sport that can last a life time give Stephanie a call at (210) 365-0138.  Please remember to always check in at the pro-shop when coming out to play tennis.

LADIES GOLF

Attention ladies! Let’s get geared up for a ladies post valentine golf luncheon on Wednesday, February 22^nd. We will have a 9-hole scramble beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by a sweet and scrumptious lunch at noon. Come out and golf with your girlfriends and eat to your heart’s desire.  Please call Stephanie at (210) 365-0138 or the PCC pro shop at 830-281-3486.

POLAR BEAR SUNDAY SCRAMBLE

River Bend and Pleasanton members, golfers and guests are welcome to participate in the annual Polar Bear Scramble. The entry fee for the tourney is $20 plus all applicable golfing fees. The format is a 4-person blind draw (A-B-C-D) with everyone having to hit at least 3 drives, men over 70 years of age will tee off from the black tees. The play will go on no matter the conditions and after the round of golf we will have chili and cornbread. A dip in the pool is optional! Sound good?!? Great… call and sign up before the tournament date – Sunday, February 26^th at 1:00 p.m. at Pleasanton Country Club. See you there – if you can BEAR the temperature!
